Our Company – Design and
    fabrication of handmade, bespoke
    kitchens in Somerset, Wiltshire
    and Dorset and throughout the
    south of England

We are a small furniture-making company, based in Somerset, dedicated to designing and making handmade kitchens of the highest quality. Each kitchen is completely bespoke, individually tailored to the customer’s vision and the architecture of their room. We aim to combine imaginative design with excellent cabinet-making skills and the use of the finest materials. We also design and make hidden bookcase doors and other bespoke furniture, including bookcases, tables, wardrobes and bathroom cabinets.

Design Process – There are several
stages in the process of designing
    and making your kitchen

First, we arrange a meeting, or communicate by email and phone, to discuss your ideas, requirements, likes and dislikes, and the particular possibilities and constraints of the room. Then we produce a plan – overhead view – of the kitchen and a costing based on the plan and a description of the cabinetry. We set out various options.

If at this stage you are interested in pursuing the project further with us, we discuss any revisions you might wish to make to the original specifications and aim to fine-tune any decisions about appliances, materials and hardware. We then provide you with detailed elevational views and a fixed quotation.

Once you make an order we agree a schedule for making and fitting your kitchen. And finally our team of five skilled and experienced furniture makers build and fit your kitchen.

    Our values
This is what is important to us:

    • Good communication with the customer so that we understand what you want and you are clear about what we are intending to make and how much it will cost
    • Excellence in design and workmanship
    • Use of sustainably sourced timber
    • Punctual delivery and installation

Prices – The main factors determining
costs are the amount of cabinetry and
the type of detailing in the design.

Very roughly, and excluding vat, small kitchens start from about £15,000; medium sized kitchens start from £19,000; large kitchens start from £23,000. Appliances and worktops are extra.

We can explain how costs can be significantly affected by different design details and methods of construction.

We do not charge for drawing an initial plan of the proposed kitchen layout and an estimate of costs. Any further work that we are asked to do we negotiate with the customer.

“My wife auditioned a cabinet (collective noun for kitchen designers?) of companies. David Craigie stood out for his attention to detail, his trustworthiness and the way his team seemed totally absorbed by – and proud of – their work. We were given a tour of the workshop before we made any commitment – well worth doing.

David’s design and attention to detail was second to none. The quality of workmanship is exemplary, the fitters (DC sends at least one of the cabinet makers to do the fit which is a brilliant move to ensure everything is installed carefully) painstaking and the final result went beyond our expectations.

In a previous house we commissioned a new kitchen from probably London’s most expensive kitchen designer. Our Craigie Woodworks kitchen was bigger (i.e. involved more work), around half the price and is probably, on balance, better made.

We cannot recommend them highly enough.”

“Absolute Abode Design has worked with David on numerous occasions, engaging Craigie Woodworks to create and install kitchen and bespoke cabinetry for bathrooms and studies. David is extremely personable, provides great service and his work is of extremely high quality. He provides excellent construction drawings and installation always goes very smoothly. I would highly recommend Craigie Woodworks.”

“Having recently moved to the South West our first major project renovating our large Victorian property was to create and design a new kitchen in a central location in the house. We invited several firms to provide input and quote for the work.

Immediately we knew David Craigie was a good listener and he took on board all our requirements in a space that had no clues as to what it would become. Upon appointment we were introduced to his brilliant young team of designers and later in the process equally excellent fitters. From start to finish it was ten weeks: we signed up and had a beautiful hand crafted kitchen working and installed. The result was extremely satisfying: the materials first class, the paint work of the highest standard and David had managed to build excellent relationships with third party suppliers (granite, sinks, taps, handles etc.) allowing a relaxed approach to making unique product selection.
At all times there was an open dialogue, so very friendly and never any doubt the deadline would be met. Installation was only three days in execution and every day we now enjoy the most important room in our house in a relaxing environment with high functionality. A truly first class company.”
