WHO WE ARE

My name is David Craigie. I trained in a furniture and joinery workshop in London in the 1980’s. In 1992 I moved out of London and set up my first workshop, working on my own.

At that time most of my work consisted of small private commissions from customers in London. In 1996 I set up a partnership with Jock Scott, Craigie and Scott, and increasingly we began to work with architects and builders on large refurbishments in central London. The partnership ended in 1999 when Jock left to start a completely different career.

Craigie Woodworks started in 1999 and now has three employees Duncan Hooper, Jason Luck and Stephen Bevan. We all live in or around Bruton and our work has become more local, though we are still happy to travel further afield when asked to.

WORKING WITH THE CUSTOMER

I work with both private customers and architects/designers. Once I have been contacted by a potential customer, I arrange a face-to-face meeting, usually on site.

If I am contacted by an architect/designer, the process is simpler in that they will usually have a plan of a kitchen, say, and often elevational drawings as well and they will simply ask me to price the job.

In the case of private customers, some will know exactly the style, materials and layout of a particular project and they will just want to know what it will cost; others will ask me to design the project from scratch. I provide a free service in meeting, discussing, pricing and drawing up what has been discussed.
