HOW WE BUILD KITCHENS

We make all our own carcasses, doors and drawers. As well as being better built than mass-market carcasses, ours are not made in modules of 500mm or 600mm wide: we build to whatever the design of the particular kitchen dictates. We build our carcasses generally from melamine-faced mdf, which is much stronger than chipboard. The finish is often white or a light Maple appearance. Melamine is probably the easiest-to-wipe finish there is.

As for drawers, our in-house style is to make them out of maple veneered mdf with solid maple lippings. But sometimes a customer will have a preference for solid wood drawers with dovetails or some other construction or material. We normally use top-of-the range Blumotion drawer runners which, as well as being concealed, close with a soft, braked action.

Kitchen doors can be made to any specification. Whatever hinge is specified, whether a sprung concealed one or a traditional butt hinge, we fit the best quality. To do otherwise is a false economy. As for worktops, we often make up our own timber ones using full-width planks. Or, to reduce costs, we can supply factory-made solid timber worktops made up of 40mm wide strips laminated together. We work with a local marble and granite company to supply stone worktops. In recent years they have supplied many of my customers with green slate worktops, which is a lovely material. We work with another company to supply stainless steel worktops and/or splashbacks. We also supply composite stones such as Corian .

Once we have built a kitchen we finish it in the way agreed with the customer, either with paint or oil or lacquer. We then deliver the kitchen and begin the fitting process which usually takes between three and five days for the cupboards themselves. If the worktops are stone or stainless steel they need to be templated after the base units are fitted and then the lead time before the tops are ready for fitting is usually ten to fourteen days.
